Supporting Children's Palliative Care Across Asia-Pacific

Participants and Teaching Faculty - EPEC-Pediatrics Professional Development Workshop on Day 2 of the Leadership Programme, Manila, Phillipines (November 2025)

A new publication led by Te Ārai member, Gemma Aburn highlights an interdisciplinary leadership workshop that brought together healthcare professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen children's palliative care services. The programme focused on leadership development, collaboration, advocacy, education, and building regional networks to improve care for children with serious illnesses and their families.

The workshop highlighted both the significant need for children's palliative care across the region and the common challenges faced by countries. Participants identified leadership, education, advocacy, and stronger cross-country collaboration as critical enablers for future development. Investing in regional networks and leadership programmes can help accelerate progress and strengthen palliative care services for children and families throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The paper demonstrates how collaborative leadership initiatives can support sustainable growth and improve access to high-quality palliative care across diverse healthcare settings.
