Congratulations Huihui!

We are delighted to congratulate Huihui Jin on successfully passing her PhD Provisional Year Review, an important milestone on the doctoral journey.

Huihui's study,"Understanding Advance Care Planning Conversations among Older Chinese Adults in New Zealand", addresses a significant gap in the literature. While ACP has traditionally been discussed through frameworks that emphasise individual autonomy and planning, Huihui's work recognises that experiences of ageing, family responsibility, migration, and healthcare engagement are often more complex and relational.

One of the innovative features of Huihui's proposal is its innovative use of precarity as a sensitising concept. Rather than viewing engagement with ACP solely through cultural explanations, her research will explore how structural, relational, linguistic, and institutional conditions may enable or constrain participation in future care conversations.

The study will involve qualitative interviews with older Chinese adults living in New Zealand, alongside an analysis of New Zealand ACP policies, guidelines, and public-facing resources. By bringing together community perspectives and policy analysis, Huihui hopes to identify opportunities for more culturally, relationally, and contextually responsive approaches to ACP communication and resource development.
