Celebrating Susan
Susan with Whaea Erana and her husband Andy
Susan Waterworth joined Te Ārai at the very beginning, enthusiastically embracing our commitment to form the first palliative care research group in Aotearoa working in partnership with Māori. Over the last 13 years she has been a pou (pillar of support) for us all. She has brought expertise, wisdom, manaakitanga, aroha and her strong commitment to social justice and equity to all that we do. But it is time for her to move onto a new adventure after an amazing 27 years in Te Kura Tāpuhi/School of Nursing. We had a lovely afternoon celebrating her and the significant contribution she has made to the lives of her colleagues, students and research participants. Merryn and Tess spoke about the significance of her research and the values she has brought to supporting and growing Te Ārai. They also gifted her with a taonga signifying growth and aroha. We will all miss Susan very much, but we are excited that she gets to spend more time in her caravan with Andy!
